Accessibility
A site every shepherd can use.
Ministers reach us on old phones and new laptops, on fast connections and patchy ones, with good eyesight and failing eyesight. We want this site to work for all of them.
Our aim
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA across shepherdsonly.org. We test new pages as we build them, and we treat every accessibility problem reported to us as something to fix, not something to explain away.
What we have built in
- Clear structure. Pages use proper headings, landmarks and breadcrumbs, so screen readers can move through them easily.
- Keyboard access. Menus, questions, forms and buttons can all be used without a mouse, with a visible focus outline.
- Readable text. Generous type sizes and line spacing, with text colours chosen for strong contrast against their backgrounds.
- Room to zoom. Layouts adapt to small screens and to browser zoom without hiding content.
- Calm motion. Animations are gentle, and they switch off automatically if your device is set to reduce motion.
- Labelled forms. Every field has a visible label, required fields are marked, and messages after you submit are announced to assistive technology.
- Light pages. We avoid heavy scripts and video so the site loads on slower mobile connections.
Known limitations
- The application form itself is provided by a third-party service. We have chosen it with care, but we do not control every aspect of its accessibility.
- The security check on our forms is provided by Cloudflare Turnstile. It is designed to be accessible, but if it ever stops you from sending a message, please email us directly.
- Some older documents, including policy downloads added in future, may not be fully accessible. We will provide an accessible version on request.
Getting help
If any part of this site is difficult to use, or if you need information in another format, such as larger print or a plain-text version, write to [email protected] with “Accessibility” in the subject line. Tell us the page and the problem, and we will help you and work to fix it.
If you are applying for support and an accessibility barrier is preventing you from completing your application within the window, please tell us as soon as possible so that we can assist.
